the gospel of Philip, a vaguely valentinian gnostic apocryphal text, mocks the doctrine of virgin birth:
some said Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit. they do not know what they are saying; when did a female ever conceive by a female?
in classical Syriac, "Holy Spirit" is realized as "ܪܘܼܚܵܐ ܩܲܕܝܫܵܐ" (Rukha Qadisha), which is grammatically feminine and perceived as female in aspect (lots of gnostic theology/cosmology has lots of sex duality)
they literally thought the virgin birth was implausibly lesbian
