I'm going to tell you an intricate lie, one that I've incrementally refined over the years to sustain me.

Part I of the lie: In the world of sapient beings, there are bodies, and there are souls. Humans are those beings who are comprised of both body and soul. Those beings comprised only of soul we designate as angel; to those soulless bodies, we assign demon.

Part II of the lie: Souls are parcels of the will of God, at least insofar as that will relates to the form and behavior of God's creation. Souls impart structure, function, and purpose.

Part III of the lie: Bodies are parcels of the primordial chaos from which God formed the world. Bodies impart dynamism, variance, and sensation.

Part IV of the lie: Transmutation of humanity, rejection of the body or the soul, is possible, although perhaps not desirable. An self-shattering ordeal may bring about transmutation regardless of one's will.
